Craig Cottage and Craig Alvah Lodge - luxury self catering accommodation in Scotland, perfect for a short break to the Scottish Highlands

Craig Cottage is based at the Bridge of Alvah within the grounds of our home, Craig Alvah Lodge, although in complete privacy and seclusion and part of Banff County Estate.

The Bridge of Alvah is not a town or village but a lovely secluded spot with a beautiful single arch bridge with a secret room crossing the famous gorge on the River Deveron.

These luxurious self catering properties are loacted in the Scottish Grampians in the north east of the country. The towns of Banff and Macduff and the spectacular Moray Firth coastline are 2-3 miles away, Aberdeen 45 miles, Inverness 66 miles and Elgin 33 miles.

By Rail

The nearest railway stations are Aberdeen (46 miles) and Huntly (20 miles).

By Car

Banff can be reached from the South via Aberdeen (46 miles) or from the North via Inverness (66 miles). For journeys from England, head for Glasgow but bypass it, following signs for North, Stirling, Dundee, Aberdeen. From Aberdeen, follow signs to Banff A947, passing through Newmachar, Oldmeldrum, Fyvie and Turriff.

Once you reach Banff, pass the golf course and football stadium, then turn left following signs for Huntly and Aberchirder A97, pass two mini roundabouts (second one is Fife Lodge Hotel entrance). Go straight on for half a mile then turn left at Deer Park Farm (signpost is on the left and very easy to miss). This is now a single track road. Continue straight on until road forks left or right. Follow road to the right for ¾ mile until you come to a very large Wellingtonia tree (lucky “Penny tree” to locals) in the middle of the road. Turn right through the gates of Craig Alvah Lodge and take a sharp left to Craig Cottage.

From Deer Park Farm please drive very carefully as this road is part of the walk from Duff House through the Wrack woodlands to the Bridge of Alvah and regularly has people walking and, as darkness comes, so do the wildlife deer, badgers, rabbits, foxes and other wildlife, so please drive very carefully.

By Air

The nearest airport is at Dyce, Aberdeen (40 miles) and Inverness (60 miles).
Both airports have direct flights from many UK and European destinations including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Southampton, Leeds/Bradford, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bergen, Geneva (for a complete list visit the above websites.

From Aberdeen airport, follow signs for Banff on the A947 passing through Newmachar, Oldmeldrum, Turriff. It is an easy 1 hour drive.

From Inverness Airport follow signs for Nairn, Elgin, then Banff, taking the A96 to Fochabers then the A98 to Banff. The journey should take around 1hour 45 minutes.
